Twitvid by VowelStar Alex Lambert performing “Butterflies”, one of the first songs he wrote post-Idol. The Sunset Strip Music Festival at The Roxy on August 28
was the first show for Alex’s newly formed band, “The Light”.
The Light
Bass Guitar & Drums: George & Freddie Hill, teenagers originally from England.
Keys: Oliver Lee, who was hired via open audition, is the eldest of the group at twenty-something.
Guitar & Background Vocals: Samuel Larsen (Alex’s talented dreadlocked roommate during Hollywood Week on Idol), and Alex Treharne from England (step-brother of the Hill twins on percussion). Alex T. is an awesomely gifted musician, but is scheduled to return to the U.K. for school after the first show.

Gaga comparison aside, Carrie underwhelms
No, the problems were that Underwood delivered nearly every song with the same sense of dynamics (faux drama, usually accompanied with cutesy scrunchy waves to fans, building to a full-throated and often shrill wail); almost all her lyrics dealt with the downbeat themes of heartbreak, longing or revenge, and her patter (save for the Gaga story) had all the sincerity of a beauty-pageant Q&A (note to Carrie: you never have performed at this fair before).

‘American Idol’ musicians deliver entertaining overview
Current Idol champ Lee DeWyze opened his showcase with slacker deconstruction of U2’s “Beautiful Day.” All of the tune’s majesty was stripped, and DeWyze carelessly glossed over key lyric, “After the flood, all the colors came out.”
