< New York: What happened to Rochester and Albany? Rochester is down by 1515 tickets, and Albany by 1079.

< Cleveland, Ohio, is only down by 65 tickets, so this is fine. They did turn out for the popular Season 5, and of course in Season 4 when they had a home town boy.

< Kansas City, Missouri? One can not compare the turn out for home town winner David Cook in 2008 to the 2009 attendance. Even considering that there were two shows in 2008, they are still down by an average of 3875 seats for one show, and 16,059 overall. Since this was only the second year in Kansas City, perhaps they are not in the habit yet of looking forward to the annual Idol concert.

< Columbus, Ohio is down by 710 tickets. This is fine, they have respectable numbers for every year except Season 3.

< St. Louis, Missouri is down by 462 tickets, and this is fine. They have supported Idol for eight seasons, only dropping very low during Season 3.

< Hartford, Connecticut is only down by 481 tickets. They have faithfully turned out in nice numbers for seven consecutive seasons.

    > Hamilton, Ontario sold over 10K tickets for the first Idol concert in their city. Very nice turnout for their former hometown boy.

    > Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is up by 83 tickets. They have supported seven consecutive Idol tours.

    > Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is up by 194 tickets. This was the seventh consecutive season at Mellon Arena, with nice figures every year except Season 3.

    > Auburn Hills, Michigan, had a gain of 1127 tickets! The tour has played three different venues in the Detroit area during eight seasons.

    > The move to Boston, Massachusetts, from Worcester was a smart one. Ticket sales are up by 1825.

    > Milwaukee, Wisconsin is up by 6140 tickets! The tour did not stop in Milwaukee in 2008. Comparing the 2007 Season 6 attendance, they more than doubled it. The previous highest total was recorded by Season 5’s tour in 2006, and they topped this by 392 tickets. Nice turnout for their hometown boy.

    Season 8 Kris/Adam
    – Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro NC sold 7,776 of 10,621 – 73%
    – 1st Mariner Arena in Baltimore MD sold 8,765 of 10,025 – 87%
    – Verizon Center in Washington DC sold 9,904 of 11,510 – 86%
    – Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City NJ sold 12,699 of 12,846 – 99%
    – Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale NY sold 20,875 of 23,245 – 90%
    – Prudential Center in Newark NJ sold 22,331 of 25,669 – 87%

Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall has been very good to the Idol’s Tour.

We expected to see a larger turnout in Greensboro. North Carolina has a rich history in welcoming home their finalists.

Washington DC only dropped off by 537 tickets, so this is fine.

Baltimore MD sold 713 tickets less than the previous year, a little disappointing, but this is fine.

Long Island NY was down by 1466 for two shows, but this turnout was quite acceptable. It’s hard to get people into the nose-bleed seats.

Newark NJ is a new venue and welcomed the Idols for the second year. They were down by 1126 tickets for two shows. Not bad at all.

  5. Patti Jeske says:

OOPs, My bad! This was DC’s Declaration Tour not Idols Live.
David Cook Lensic Performing Arts Center comments moved, no problem.

I did however fly out to Salt Lake City last year to see AI7 at the E Center in West Valley City, Utah. Was a great show but VERY loud. I forgot what it was like to be in a concert with 12,000 screaming teenage, or for that matter any age girl, woman, whatever! Plus my hotel was just across the parking lot from the venue so I just walked to the concert. Great place for concerts and hotels combined and a few choice eating places within walking distance. Would go there again but just for the right concert. That weekend cost around $500 for the ticket, plane, hotel, taxi and eats and souviners of course.

    Season 8 Kris/Adam
    – FedExForum in Memphis TN sold 8,034 of 11,689 – 69%
    – BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise FL sold 9,003 of 12,209 – 74%
    – St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa FL sold 9,347 of 13,036 – 72%
    – Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte NC sold 9,567 of 13,067 – 73%
    – Arena at Gwinnett Center in Duluth GA sold 10,050 0f 10,050 – 100%
    – Verizon Arena in North Little Rock AR sold 14,288 of 14,288 – 100%

Little Rock did an awesome job of welcoming home their winner with a sold out show!

Memphis actually had a decent turnout. Even though we’d like to see a full house when there is a home town finalist, this expectation is not justified because there is so much competition for ticket dollars in the city.

For the Florida shows, don’t judge these by the percentages sold. Clearly some sections should not have been offered for sale. Miami / Sunrise was only down by 180 tickets over the previous year, when they actually had a home town finalist. Tampa had a Top 3 finalist in 2008, yet they only sold 1810 tickets less in 2009.

Charlotte NC ticket sales were up, but only by 56 tickets. We expected more since there was a home state finalist.

It’s puzzling to us why more seats weren’t offered for sale in Duluth when it was approaching sold-out status. They were up by 34 seats over the previous year, when they had a finalist with strong ties to the area.

  7. Karl says:

True that Dallas had a significant increase, but I think that’s cause last year there were two concerts in Texas (Dallas and Houston) and this year there was only one. I think that explains it.

  8. StageManager says:

    Season 8 (Kris/Adam)
    – BOK Center in Tulsa OK sold 8431 of 10581 – 80%
    – Jobing.com Arena in Glendale AZ sold 8832 of 10710 – 83%
    – American Airlines Center in Dallas TX sold 11244 of 11938 – 94%
    – Staples Center in Los Angeles CA sold 11327 of 13238 – 86%

Dallas had a significant increase over last year, although it was a hometown concert stop in both 2008 (Jason Castro) and 2009 (Michael Sarver). Jason actually lives near Dallas, while Michael lives hundreds of miles away. Good job on bringing in more proud Texas fans this year, Michael!

Tulsa had an extreme decrease in 2009. However, it was the home concert for winner David Cook in 2008.

  9. StageManager says:

    Season 8 (Kris/Adam)
    – Citizens Business Bank sold 8053 of 8240 tickets available for 97.7%.
    – The E Center in West Valley City UT sold 6511 of 9702 – 67%.

Excellent turnout at Citizens Business Bank especially since this is the first year the tour booked Ontario, California.

This is a significant drop from last year at West Valley City UT, when home town boy, David Archuleta, packed ‘em in for two shows with a total attendance of 17359.

  10. StageManager says:

    Season 8 (Kris/Adam)
    – General Motors Place in Vancouver sold 8203 tickets out of 12533 (65.5%).
    – Oracle Arena in Oakland CA sold 8459 of 12525 available (67.5%).

2009 is the first year for Idols Live to perform in Oakland and Vancouver. Having sold over 8000 in both markets, we consider each of these shows to be a success.

  11. StageManager says:

    Season 8 (Kris/Adam)
    – ARCO Arena in Sacramento CA sold 10937 of 11527 – 95%
    – HP Pavilion in San Jose CA sold 10391 of 12004 – 87%
    – Rose Garden Arena in Portland OR sold 9537 of 11680 – 82%
    – Sports Arena in San Diego CA sold 9381 of 11000 – 85%
    – Tacoma Dome in Tacoma WA sold 8086 of 9833 – 82%

In San Diego, it appears fans purchased more of the expensive seats this year. Season 8 had the highest gross in five treks to the area, although they did not top the attendance.

This is a very good Season 8 attendance total for Portland, Oregon, and in fact they had the highest gross of all eight seasons for that market. The number of tickets sold was only 27 seats shy of tying with Season 5, which sent so many successful artists into the entertainment world: Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, Chris Daughtry, Kellie Pickler, Bucky Covington, and Mandisa.
